Pre-theatre dinner near King's Cross

Fiena shopfront and outdoor tables on Judd Street near King's Cross

If your evening ends at a West End show, a concert nearby, or a performance around Bloomsbury and King's Cross, you need a kitchen that understands the clock. We are Fiena, a family-run Italian cafe, bar and restaurant at 4 Medway Court on Judd Street, a short walk from King's Cross St Pancras. Guests often eat with us before they head out, and the reviews say as much.

Built for an early curtain

Our full lunch and dinner menu runs from midday, so you can book an early table and still make a 7pm or 7:30pm start. Mark titled his Tripadvisor review "Perfect for a pre concert meal" and kept the verdict short: Fantastic food. Great value. Great service. (Mark H., Tripadvisor review). Derek and Kim make us a habit before the theatre whenever they are in London: Food of the highest quality with my carbonara being one of the best I’ve tasted! (Derek P., Tripadvisor review).

Neil's lunch visit captures the pace many pre-show diners want: Food was great, arrived quick, service was lovely. (Neil C., Google review). Tell your server you have a show to catch and we will keep an eye on the time. Walk-ins are welcome when we have space, though an online booking is wiser on Friday and Saturday evenings.

What to order when you have ninety minutes

Keep it simple and satisfying. From the main menu:

  • Pasta: carbonara, Linguine Fiena, spaghetti bolognese, penne arrabbiata or lasagna. Gluten-free penne is available for every pasta dish.
  • Pizza: Margherita, Diavola, Capricciosa, Buffalo or Pizza al pollo, ready to share or eat alone. A gluten-free base is available.
  • Grill and fish: saltimbocca alla Romana, pollo alla Milanese, lamb cutlets, or sea bass with capers if you want something lighter before sitting still for two hours.
  • Shared starters: garlic bread with cheese, arancini, bruschetta or a caprese to get the table going quickly.

C. J., visiting with family, wrote: Pizzas were excellent, and the service was relaxed and friendly. (C. J., Tripadvisor review). An OpenTable diner described The pizza was perfectly baked with a crispy crust and generous, fresh toppings (OpenTable review). If dessert will push you late, skip it here and save gelato for another visit, or share a quick tiramisu or affogato from our dessert menu.

Robin's pasta praise is useful when you want one decisive main: The Linguini Fiena was honestly one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. (Robin W., Google review).

Aperitivo first, then dinner

Some guests prefer a spritz and a nibble, then a main. The bar pours from 10:30, so an early Aperol, Hugo, Campari or limoncello spritz is easy, as is a Negroni if you want something stronger. Katelyn paired drinks and pasta in one line: Best aperol spritz and spaghetti bolognaise I've had in a while! (Katelyn S., Google review). Kiley's advice for the terrace: I'd also recommend sitting outside and enjoying a cocktail here. (Kiley R., Google review). The full list is on our drinks page.

Getting to the theatre from Judd Street

King's Cross St Pancras Underground connects you to most of the West End in a few stops, and buses along Euston Road run towards Bloomsbury and Covent Garden. We are also a calm place to regroup after a matinee before the train home. One guest noted that because we close late I can hangout with friends here without pressure!! (Tripadvisor review). Monday to Saturday we stay open until 22:00; Sundays until 21:00.

Celia's line is the one we hear in different words all the time: A hidden gem not far from Kings Cross or Euston (Celia F., Google review). That geography is exactly why a pre-theatre booking here works.

A simple pre-show plan

  • Book for 5:30pm or 6:00pm if you have a 7:30pm curtain.
  • Order starter and main together, or go straight to pasta or pizza.
  • Mention your showtime when you sit down.
  • Ask for the bill with dessert coffee if you are cutting it fine.

Book the early sitting

For pre-theatre evenings, an online booking is the safest plan. Reserve a table for up to 8 on our booking page, mention your curtain time in the notes if you like, and walk over when you are ready. Walk-ins are welcome when we have space. We look forward to getting you fed, watered and out of the door on time.
